Into the Blue - West Berkshire Museum hosts special exhibition

West Berkshire Museum is delighted to be hosting a new exhibition of paintings and sculptures by two local artists, Susan Hubbard and Nick Speakman, during February.

Aegean Sea II - mixed media painting by Susan Hubbard

Issued on: 01 February 2018.

Into the Blue features a series of Susan's paintings inspired by the Aegean Sea. Having always been drawn to the sea, this part of the Greek Aegean came to have a special significance for her. Painted over two summers, with some being survivors of a fire in her previous studio, Susan is pleased to finally exhibit them altogether.

Susan Hubbard studied Art at the University of Reading and graduated in 1996. She now exhibits as part of Open Studios Berkshire & North Hampshire and will be exhibiting this year at City Arts in Newbury during part of May and June.

Nick Speakman's creations in wood perfectly complement Susan's paintings. He is a visionary maker and sculptor who designs, bends, and shapes beautiful creations in wood, creating sculpture and furniture that cries out to be touched and admired.

Nick designs by drawing on visuals derived from art or nature. The wood itself is integral in the design also, determining shape via the grain, or function via the wood's natural shape and strength.

Susan and Nick are the most recent artists to take advantage of hiring Gallery 5 at the Museum to exhibit their work. For further information about hiring this room, please email museum.roomhire@westberks.gov.uk or telephone 01635 519562.

The exhibition runs until 25 February 2018. To find out more visit the West Berkshire Heritage website.
