Another chance to get behind the wheel for 15-19 year olds

Following on from the success of the last few events, West Berkshire Council is holding another of its DriveStart experience days on Thursday 26 October. The day is ideal for young drivers, aged between 15-19, itching to get behind the wheel.

2017 - Young driver at DriveStart event

Issued on: 21 September 2017.

The cost for the whole day is just £20 and will be held at the Madejski Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL. Registration is at 10am and will finish at 3.00pm (please bring a packed lunch).

The day offers the chance to get in a car for a driving session and learn some of the vital skills needed to become a safe driver.

Young Driver will be running these practical driving sessions, using their four dual controlled Skoda Citigos. Instructors from the scheme will also be giving an interactive presentation on road safety.

The days have proved really popular in the past with a whole host of other activities to take part in including a selection of interactive workshops. Run in partnership with Kwik Fit, Admiral Young Driver and Reading Football Community Trust,  these include the opportunity to learn some basic car maintenance skills; tips on buying your first car and more.

Jeanette Clifford, West Berkshire Council's member for Highways and Transport said, 'We're delighted with how popular - and useful - these sessions are. It's great to see our young people get behind the wheel in a controlled environment and find out what it's really like to drive a car. They also go into the classroom where they learn about safety, develop good habits and are reminded to think about other road users too. We're looking forward to another successful session and encourage young drivers to sign up quickly.'
