Working in partnership with local cyber-security experts, EnterpriseRed, West Berkshire Council's Economic Development Service is offering this free workshop for local business owners and their employees.

The workshop will be held on Monday 24 July from 9am - 12.30pm at the West Berkshire Council Offices.

Anthony Chadley, West Berkshire Council's executive member for Economic Development said: 'Barely a week goes by without cyber-security issues hitting the national or international news. The threat of cyber-attack and data breach is a growing problem for businesses of all sizes in the UK. According to Government figures, almost half of all firms detected a breach last year. Training your staff how to spot and avoid potential attacks can turn employees into a highly-effective human firewall.'

Cyber-attacks are estimated to have cost British firms as much as £30 billion last year, making it one of the greatest concerns for businesses. Phishing and viruses are the most common problems, affecting 72% of companies who reported cyber problems, and the threats they pose can be significant. With new General Data Protection regulations coming into force in May 2018, the pressure is on. Hefty fines are only one consequence of failing. Defences need to be strengthened to prevent against a loss of reputation, custom and income.
