Why Foster with West Berkshire Council?

What makes fostering through West Berkshire Council special?

If you're new to the idea of fostering, The Fostering Network has a whole range of information about what fostering is, and why it's so important.

Our foster carers are from all kinds of backgrounds; they can be:

  •  single or with a partner
  •  working or not working
  •  renting or owning their home

Why we're special

Through West Berkshire Council, Foster Carers do much more than just provide a home or act as substitute parents.

Fostering and short breaks (or respite) caring is about welcoming you as part of our team.  We'll support you in using your skills to help us understand how the child feels, what they need and what they want.

It's sometimes also about working with the child's family, or about becoming involved with agencies that look out for the child's wellbeing. This might include joining in with meetings to try to piece together the jigsaw of their current needs and to plan for what they'll need in the future.

Unlike other agencies, we offer fantastic essential training to let you make the most of your abilities and skills (or to develop new ones) to help children who may have had distressing experiences. We've got great support groups to give you a chance to learn from other carers and share your own experiences too. Our fostering experts are with you every step of the way.

On top of this, we'll pay you pdf icon generous allowances [37kb].

Fostering can be a challenge, but it's incredibly rewarding!
Most children in foster care for any length of time never forget their carers.

Don't take our word for it though - you can hear from our foster carers in their own words too.
