Footcare Service

Providing a basic foot care service in partnership with West Berkshire Podiatry Services

We recognise there are people who are unable to carry out their own basic foot care, who aren't eligible for NHS podiatry care and who have no one else who can do it for them. We also recognise the importance of maintaining good foot care - poor foot care can lead to lack of mobility, falls and poor general health.

Our pdf icon Happy Feet Foot Care Service [974kb] can visit you in your home and provide four aspects of basic foot care:

  • toenail cutting
  • filing of toenails
  • bathing of feet
  • cream application to feet

Applying for foot care

Anyone can refer you to the service, including yourself, but you will be asked some questions about your medical history before the visit.

Contact Adult Social Care to arrange a visit.

We have to make sure that you are eligible, ie 'medically fit', to receive the service.  There are some medical conditions that can affect your feet and require you to have your foot care provided by a registered podiatrist.

If you are eligible for foot care your referral details will be passed to the Happy Feet service and they will contact you with an appointment. They'll ask you for your written consent before they visit you.

Paying for foot care

The cost of the service is £19 per visit.
Foot care would normally be carried out every eight weeks, but this might sometimes be more often, depending on your needs.

Before the first visit of the Foot Care service, you'll be required to purchase a foot care kit.
The cost of the kit is £11.50 and comprises nail clippers and diamond deb file - your own personal foot care kit reduces the risk of cross infection from other service users.

An invoice will be sent to you following each visit by the foot care service.
