Sack Collections

Rubbish and recycling collections for properties with sacks

Some households in West Berkshire use sacks for their rubbish and recycling, the information below relates to these households only. If you have a bin and boxes, please visit our recycling collections page.

We deliver an annual supply of disposable black sacks for rubbish in July or August. Clear sacks for recycling are provided on request, please contact Customer Services to request them.

To get the most from your service:

  • make sure your sacks are ready for collection by 7am on your collection day
  • don't overload your sacks with heavy items
  • don't put liquids in your sacks
  • ensure you only put out waste in the sacks provided by us

Recycling

You can check what you can recycle in pdf icon our Yes/No Recycling leaflet [8Mb]

Please make sure your recycling is separated out into different sacks. You can recycle paper and card in one sack and all your plastic bottles, aerosols, drinks and food cans can be put together in another sack. Glass cannot be collected in sacks but can be recycled at one of our mini recycling centres.

If you have any problems with your recycling, please check our recycling collections page.

You can still recycle your garden waste for free by composting it at home or by taking it to one of our recycling centres.

Food waste

If you subscribe to the garden waste service you can put your food waste in your green sacks. If you are not subscribed to the garden waste service, please put food waste in your kerbside caddy.

All food waste should be put in a compostable bag.

You can check what food waste you can recycle on our food waste recycling page.
