Physical Activity
Find out about available activities and sports in West Berkshire
There are a number of ways to be more physically active in our district. For more information on the activities listed please follow the links provided.
- Walking - Walking for Health - regular, led, health walks ranging from 30 to 90 minutes
- Running - Running in West Berkshire (RunTogether) - weekly, free, fun beginners running groups
- Cycling - fun, free group cycle rides for beginner adults and families
Cycle West Berkshire Timetable [2Mb] and Bikeability - free cycle training at various locations across the district
- Sports and Leisure Centres provided by West Berkshire Council in partnership with Parkwood Leisure
- Activity for Health - Exercise Programmes - classes designed to help people either manage or recover from an existing condition, or to help those at risk of developing one

- Sports Club Directory - details of local Clubmark-accredited sports clubs and clubs registered with the "Get Berkshire Active" database
- Be Active: Green Bags Scheme - sports equipment available for free hire - green bags contain kwik cricket, rugby, football, hockey, tennis and badminton equipment
- Disability Sports
Athletics and Special Olympics training [394kb] is available for adults in Thatcham (Crookham Common Athletic Club) on Fridays between 1:15pm - 2:15pm; sessions are organised by No Limits Sports and Leisure and aimed at all abilities, including wheelchair users, with the emphasis being enjoyment of physical activity and participating in group sessions
Disability Football [2Mb] sessions run on Fridays 4:30pm - 5:30pm at Park House School (Academy), Newbury football for individuals with disabilities; fun and friendly sessions are led by FA qualified coaches from the Berks and Bucks Football Association
- Gyms
- Newbury & Thatcham Green Gym - conservation volunteering with a focus on improving peoples physical activity levels and general wellbeing at Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre, Snelsmore Common Country Park
- West Berkshire Therapy Centre - a specialised gym in Thatcham, equipped with power-assisted exercise equipment, for the benefit of disabled people from the local community
