West Berkshire Local Plan Review to 2036

Planning policies for development in West Berkshire to 2036

Our current Local Plan sets out our planning policies up to 2026. We have now begun a review of our Local Plan to cover the period up to 2036.

Scope and content of the Local Plan Review (LPR)

The review will look at our future levels of need for new homes, employment and other land uses up to 2036. It will also consider what our associated infrastructure needs will be. We set out the scope and content of our LPR in our pdf icon Local Plan Review Scoping Report [290kb] and accompanying pdf icon Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report [4Mb]  which we consulted on between February and March 2018.  The feedback we received and the way in which this will be taken forward is summarised in our pdf icon LPR Scoping Report Consultation Statement (October 2018) [4Mb].

Consultation from 9 November to 21 December 2018

As part of the development of the review we undertook a second round of consultation, as set out in the pdf icon LPR Regulation 18 Consultation Paper November 2018 [2Mb]. We sought views on our proposed:

  • vision for the Local Plan Review
  • revision of the existing spatial areas
  • methodology for reviewing the existing settlement hierarchy
  • criteria for the settlement boundary review
  • update of our assessment of existing Local Plan policies

The feedback we received and the way in which this will be taken forward is summarised in our pdf icon LPR Regulation 18 Nov-Dec 2018 Consultation Statement - June 2019 [427kb].

We will follow this up in January 2020 with the publication of our assessments of sites that have been submitted to us as part of the Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA).
