The Queen's Platinum Jubilee in West Berkshire

Joining people across the globe, we will be celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year.

We're celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, with events taking place across the globe to mark Her Majesty The Queen's incredible 70-year reign.

Events at Shaw House 

In honour of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Shaw House will be illuminated in red, white and blue every evening from 9.30pm on Tuesday 31 May until Sunday 5 June. 

On Tuesday 31 May and Wednesday 1 June, visitors will also be able to explore inside Shaw House and refreshments will be available from the café. The House and grounds will open at 9pm and close at 10.30pm.

On Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, the illuminations will continue every evening from 9.30pm which visitors can enjoy from the historic gates, but the House and grounds will be closed. On these evenings parking will be available in the car park opposite St Mary's Church.

 

A Royal Visit from Beauty and her Prince
Friday 3 June | 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm

You are cordially invited to join us for a royal visit from Beauty and her Prince. The enchanting royal couple will delight young audiences with a fun sing-a-long, themed games and story time. With plenty of time at the end to take photographs.

£5 per child | Plus one accompanying adult (free) | Pre-book online

Show approx. 40 minutes. 

Suitable for 3-7-year-olds but younger and older children are welcome. Children aged 2 years and under are free.

Events at West Berkshire Museum

Free drop-in family craft: Long Live the Queen!
Sat 23 April-Sun 22 May  |  Free | Drop-in event (while stocks last) | 10am-4pm

Pop into the Museum to decorate a pennant with your own design which will form part of the bunting decorating the Museum for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend!  Your personalised design will join other pennants decorated by West Berkshire schools.

 

Messy Museum Morning: Red, white and blue!
Thursday 2 June | 10am-1pm |  £2 per child | 10am, 11am, and 12pm (45 minutes).

Choose between decorating a ceramic item of your choice - including a coaster, bird hanging decoration, button box or leaf tea light holder (subject to availability and while stocks last) - in red, white and blue porcelain or Deco pens, and then take it home ready for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations!

Aimed at 7-11-year-olds but younger and older children are welcome. An adult must remain with the child at all times; if possible, one accompanying adult per child only.

Please dress for mess, although disposable aprons will be provided.  You are however welcome to bring your own.

There will also be a free red, white and blue themed museum trail available.

West Berkshire Libraries

There are many events, children's activities and crafts taking place in West Berkshire libraries throughout the Jubilee celebrations.


Queen's Jubilee and Birthday Party

Thatcham Library  | Saturday 11 June | 10am - 12pm | Drop-in

Thatcham Library invite you to join them for their Royal tea party where you can make crowns and build Lego castles. There will be cakes with a royal theme and refreshments available for a small donation, plus a prize draw (for a small charge). The garden will be open for visitors to enjoy their refreshments and there will also be a treasure hunt with a small prize for everyone that completes it!

There will also be a new 'Jubilee Celebrations' box for the Reminiscence Collection, which will feature books, pictures and artefacts relating to the Queen - it will be on display in Newbury Library and will then be available to borrow.

Plus a book display at Newbury Library incorporating the Big Jubilee Read - this is a promotion from the Reading Agency and BBC Arts who have put together a list of titles from the past 70 years from UK and Commonwealth authors. Each week from 16 May the display will feature books from different decades as well as artefacts from Reminiscence boxes.
