The Dolly Parton Imagination Library continues to inspire a love of reading in the hearts of children everywhere.

The free book gifting organisation has been supported in West Berkshire by the Greenham Common Trust and Sovereign Housing since 2007 when  Dolly launched it in the UK to a group of school children singing her song 'I Believe in You' on the steps of the Savoy Hotel.

Each month, enrolled children (from birth to age five) receive a high quality, age appropriate book in the post, free of charge.

West Berkshire's Early Years Team will shortly be sharing new Dolly Parton Imagination Library Parent Sheets, developed in collaboration with North Lincolnshire Council and Nottingham Council as part of the Small Steps Big Changes City Care programme.

The Team has been working alongside the other councils to create sheets that enable parents to bring the books alive at home by trying out fun activities, rhymes and songs that complement each story. The sheets are sent to family hubs, schools and early years providers every month so they can share this resource with parents across West Berkshire.

Councillor Dominic Boeck, West Berkshire's Executive Member for Education, Children and Young People says:

"This brilliant scheme brings books into homes to inspire a love of reading in our youngest children.

"When councils work together they can share resources, skills and ideas to achieve great things. The collaboration between West Berkshire, North Lincolnshire and Nottingham County Council to create the new Parent Sheets will help our families have fun together and make the best of the exciting books their children receive."

Josh Knight and Jazzmyn Field, parents from Victoria Park Nursery School commented:

"The books and sheets have been absolutely invaluable in keeping our son excited about reading and learning. Thank you so much for a wonderful service."

"My child loves having a book with her name on arrive in the post. She thoroughly enjoys being able to sit and read each new story. The books are always age appropriate and enjoyable. I highly recommend using them!"
