Community Engagement Playbook

West Berkshire Council alongside eight other councils have been selected by the Government to create a "Community Engagement Playbook" The successful applicants to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCL)'s Local Digital Covid-19 Challenge were announced by Simon Clarke, Minister of State at the MHCLG yesterday afternoon. In total the group were awarded £80k to help lead and share best practice for engagement with communities.

Part of the project will include talking to local residents and how we addressed communications and engagement. Looking at alternative communication and engagement methods with digital channels whilst the traditional channels couldn't be used whilst C-19 restrictions were on going. This project aligns to our new communications and engagement strategy helping us take a fresh look at the way we undertake engagement across a more representative cross-section of people, including how we engage with groups that are typically hardest to reach, including those who are digitally excluded.

We shall be looking at what the user needs of residents when engaging with their council and have these needs changed since Covid. Alongside how affective our digital approach during Covid has been and building upon this, ensuring we have the technology that's is best suited for the type of interaction from consultations to user research and social media. This will then help officers, members and other councils and communities be sure they have the correct tools to undertake meaningful engagement.
