Grant funding to be released to West Berkshire businesses

A number of businesses in West Berkshire will be receiving grant funding of between £10,000 and £25,000 from Monday 6 April.

Coronavirus: support for businesses

The funding, which was announced by central government late last month, is being allocated to retail, hospitality and leisure businesses who are experiencing problems as a result of the impact of COVID-19.

Businesses are eligible for this grant if they:

  • are based in England
  • operate in the retail, hospitality and/or leisure sector
  • occupy a building used wholly or mainly by a business operating in these sectors
  • have a rateable value of less that £51,000

West Berkshire Council has received its funding allocation from the government and will begin to contact eligible businesses by email with a view to releasing the first tranche of funding the week commencing 6 April.

Commenting on the funding, Lynne Doherty, Leader of West Berkshire Council, said:

"We are pleased to have received this funding so that we can get it to businesses in need.

"Here in West Berkshire, we have a strong local economy and we have prioritised supporting this where we can. These grants will help some of our small businesses to develop resilience in the face of COVID-19.

"We are contacting businesses directly to confirm their entitlement and when their payments are due. If you haven't heard from us yet, please be patient as our team are working to provide this funding to well over 2,000 businesses.

"If your business is struggling or if you have any further questions, please contact us and we will do all we can to help. For further information email businessrates@westberks.gov.uk
