Public Path Order: Extinguishment of public bridleway East Ilsley 18

Have your say

West Berkshire Council has made an order to extinguish public bridleway East Ilsley 18, under section 118 Highways Act 1980 as the route is unsafe to use and is not needed for public use.

The bridleway has been blocked by fencing and crash barrier on the A34 for many years, and if opened would require people to cross the A34 at a dangerous point (national speed limit on a four lane dual carriageway, with a crash barrier to cross, on a curving undulating section of road).

The public may use an alternative route via the Fidlers Lane underpass beneath the A34 instead, by East Ilsley village. This has been the situation for many years.

The extinguishment will ensure that people do not try to use the route in the future, as the route is recorded as a public bridleway and is likely to appear as a recommended route on hand held 'sat-nav' devices and on online mapping features.
