Free Home to School Transport

Applying for free transport between home and school for West Berkshire residents

Before applying

Free transport is given to your nearest school if the distance criteria is met. Please read the pdf icon Home to School Transport Policy 2021-22 [367kb] for more information about this. You can check your nearest school online.

Please make sure you've read the pdf icon How is your child getting to school leaflet [1Mb] and the pdf icon behaviour code for parents and schools. [503kb]

Pupils should read the pdf icon behaviour code [398kb] as they'll be expected to follow this when using our transport.

Parents of children attending school from September 2022 should refer to the pdf icon Home to School Transport Policy 2022-23 [636kb]

If you already receive free home to school transport, there's no need to re-apply each year - bus passes are renewed automatically.

However, if you move house, or change schools, you will need to put in a new application.

In order for us to work out if you're eligible for free home to school transport, fill out and submit the relevant online application form:

Apply for free transport to a mainstream school in West Berkshire

Apply for free transport to a mainstream school outside of West Berkshire

Apply for free transport to a resourced or special needs school

We don't provide transport for pupils who live outside of West Berkshire - contact your local authority for information.

Students aged 16 or over (as of 1 September of the academic year) will need to pay a contribution towards transport assistance. Post-16 students can apply for transport assistance through our Farepayer Scheme or the Post-16 SEN Contribution Scheme.

If you have questions or problems, please contact the Pupil Transport Officer.

What happens next?

Please allow at least eight working days for a decision to be made after we receive your completed application.  Please note that it may take longer to process your application during peak periods.

We can't process an application for transport to a school unless a school place has been allocated and the address is where you and the child are currently living.

If you don't qualify for a free place, you can still apply for a farepayer place.

If you need doc icon Replacement School Transport Passes [16kb], or need to discuss issues relating to buses, please contact the Home to School Transport Team.
