Draft Leisure Strategy 2021-2031

We'd like your views on our draft strategy

The term 'leisure' means something different to all of us.  For the purposes of the strategy, we've taken it to mean physical activity, sport and the recreational use of open spaces.  Such activity may take place in a formal, purpose-built environment or in green spaces but, regardless of venue, the lifestyle benefits of participating in active pursuits is undeniable.

This strategy expresses the plans we have as a council, for the district's leisure offering from 2021 to 2031.  It builds on our commitment to maintaining West Berkshire's status as a great place to live, and also contributes to our shared aspiration to deliver good health and wellbeing for residents of all ages and backgrounds.

How did we develop the draft strategy?

The draft strategy was developed through a range of conversations, across different sectors and professional backgrounds. We've also looked at the role that leisure can play in supporting other strategies, such as the pdf icon Health and Wellbeing Board's Vision 2036 [16Mb], economic development and community safety.

We've used data from Sport England to help us form a view about levels of physical activity across the district, and to indicate the best use of resources to achieve our objectives.

Why do we want your views?

We'd like to hear your views on our pdf icon draft Leisure Strategy [16Mb], in particular our four strategic objectives, four key delivery actions and ten key targets.

If you have any questions, please contact the Sport and Leisure Manager

The survey is open until midnight on Thursday, 19 November 2020.

What happens next?

The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete and your feedback will be used to shape the final strategy, which will be considered by elected members at the Executive Meeting on 14 January 2021.

Following this, a summary of the responses and the amendments made will be posted on this page, and the final policy will be published on our Strategies, Policies and Plans webpage.

Once the strategy has been approved, we will work with our stakeholders to develop a delivery plan which will set out what will be done, by whom, and by when.
