Draft Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Strategy 2021-2023

Have your say

Background

Our existing pdf icon Domestic Abuse Strategy 2020-2023 [978kb], was agreed in 2020. However, following the passing of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 on 29 April 2021, new duties have been placed upon us, and so we need to renew our strategy to include them.

Part 4 of the Act refers to the Delivery of Support to Victims of Domestic Abuse, including Children, in Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Services, where we're required to prepare and publish a local domestic abuse strategy for the provision of such support, based on a robust local needs assessment.

How we developed our draft strategy

We've recently undertaken a local needs assessment to determine the level of need for support within safe accommodation in West Berkshire. The findings have subsequently been used to produce our pdf icon draft Domestic Abuse Safe Accommodation Strategy 2021-23 [917kb], which will cover the same period as our existing Domestic Abuse Strategy, until the documents are combined in 2023-24.

Why we want your views

We want to explore what support and safe accommodation you feel needs to be in place, or expanded further, in West Berkshire, to ensure that the needs of all victims are met.

We've received funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to ensure services are delivered where we have identified gaps in service provision. Therefore, your views will also be used to help us look at where funding should be spent.

What happens next

Your feedback will used to finalise the strategy before it is submitted to our local Domestic Abuse Board for consideration. The final strategy will be signed off by elected members at an Executive meeting in early 2022 (To be confirmed).

Following this, the final strategy will be published on our Strategies, Policies and Plans webpage.

A corresponding action plan will be developed based on the information set out in our strategy, which will help us work towards addressing any gaps in service provision and agreed priorities.
