Budget Proposals for 2019/20

Why are we consulting?

Over the last nine years we have had to make savings of £60 million as our central government funding has reduced and the need for social care support has increased. We have done this by becoming more efficient at what we do, by reducing some of our administrative functions and increasing our income. Throughout this period we have done our best to protect your services.

In recent years the Revenue Support Grant has been phased out by central government. Six years ago we received a grant worth £24 million and this has since decreased each year. For the first time we will receive no grant next year. In 2019/20 our costs will exceed our income, meaning that we have to find a further £7 million in savings or income generation. Much of this will come from becoming a more efficient council, but approximately £300,000 will have to come from services that will impact the public.

As we look at ways to meet this challenging financial situation we want your views on our budget proposals as they may have an impact on you or your community.  Before making any decisions on these proposals, it's crucial that we hear your thoughts on our proposals and, more importantly, how the impact of these proposals could be reduced.

Our consultation runs until midnight on 23 December 2018 and you can find details of our budget proposals along with how to have your say below. As well as inviting you to take part in the consultation we'll also be talking to those organisations directly affected to listen to their views on any impact on them.
