Additional Restrictions Grant

The Additional Restrictions Grant is a discretionary grant administered by West Berkshire Council to support businesses who have been impacted by Coronavirus restrictions.

The grant is divided into the following eligibility categories and businesses may apply to one:

  • Type A - You do not pay business rates, but you have been forced to close and have ongoing fixed costs, eg rent in a shared workspace.
  • Type B - Your business is ancillary to the hospitality, retail and leisure industries and you have lost your main source of revenue due to restrictions, but you are not eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG).
  • Type C - You pay business rates and you may have received the Local Restrictions Support Grant, but you did not receive any of the previous grants administered by West Berkshire Council and you require further support due to demonstrable financial vulnerability.
  • Type D - You do not pay business rates, you have not received any previous grants administered by West Berkshire Council to date and you do not fit into parts A-C, but you require support due to severe financial vulnerability.
  • Type E - Support Early Years providers in West Berkshire. Administered seperately.
  • Type F - Support for essential retail businesses who have been able to remain open, but have suffered a significant drop in trade as a result of restrictions. Administered seperately. Click here to apply

To apply for types A-D, please doc icon complete this form [84kb] [84kb] and return to: BRatesgrants@westberks.gov.uk.

The amount of funding you will receive is determined by the rateable value of the business premises you occupy, or if you are not liable for business rates then by a proxy value as detailed in the application form.

Repeat payments of the ARG

19 April 2021

All businesses that have received types A or B of the Additional Restrictions Grant have received funding to cover the restrictions in place from 4 November 2020 to 31 March 2021, either in multiple instalments or as a single lump sum.

West Berkshire Council are now providing a third instalment of the ARG under types A and B, to ensure businesses have the funding available to reopen.

These will be lump sum grant payments based upon the rateable value of the premises, or upon the annual rent or property costs provided in the ARG application form by businesses that do not have a rateable value.

Payments will be made automatically to all businesses that have received the ARG type A or B or receive it henceforth.

Businesses will receive one of the following strands:

Under type A:

  • £2,667 for businesses with annual rent or property related costs of £15,000 or under
  • £4,000 for businesses with annual rent or property related costs of over £15,000 but below £51,000
  • £6,000 for businesses with annual rent or property related costs of £51,000 or over

Under type B:

  • £8,000 for business with a rateable value, annual rent or property related costs of £15,000 or under
  • £12,000 for business with a rateable value, annual rent or property related costs of over £15,000 but under £51,000
  • £18,000 for business with a rateable value, annual rent or property related costs of £51,000 or over

We are expecting these payments to begin reaching business in the week commencing 3 May 2021.
