[ARCHIVED] Draft Environment Strategy 2020-2030
Have your say on our draft Environment Strategy
This consultation is closed
Background
In response to declaring a Climate Emergency in July 2019, we have developed a draft Environment Strategy [1Mb], which details the different ways we, with the help of the local community, can contribute towards tackling the climate crisis and achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. We will seek to take the lead by putting our 'own house in order', but this strategy cannot be delivered by us alone.
How did we develop our draft strategy?
We have considered the aspirations of our Health and Wellbeing Board's West Berkshire Vision 2019-2036, the six priorities for improvement, specifically to maintain a green district, in the Council Strategy 2019-2023, and our Transport and Planning policies and strategies. All of these documents can be found on our policies and strategies page.
We have also reviewed and analysed relevant data [1Mb] and engaged with a range of stakeholders over the last six months to gain insights into the priorities, challenges and opportunities related to our carbon neutral target and wider environmental concerns.
Why do we want your views?
We would like to hear your views on our draft Environment Strategy 2020-2030 [1Mb]. A
summary version [714kb] of the strategy is also available.
The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete and your feedback will be used to shape the final strategy, which will be approved by elected members later this year.
Following this meeting, a summary of the responses received will be posted on this page and the final strategy will be published on our policies and strategies page.
What happens next?
As we learn more about the technical nature of carbon reduction strategy, and in developing and implementing the delivery plan for the strategy, there will need to be more external engagement with the local community, schools, town and parish councils, local environmental groups and the business community.
What you told us
We received 437 responses to the survey which we took into consideration alongside feedback from other engagement activities, and used to amend the strategy.Overall the responses were positive, and the community was pleased to see the council taking the lead in developing a strategy, and agreed that the delivery of the strategy was a shared responsibility.
