Level Crossing Maintenance Order REF: 006150MS

Statutory consultation on a Traffic Regulation Order

This consultation is closed.

We are looking to change the way we close roads through level crossings during maintenance works on the railway. Until now, all closures have been done using a rolling programme of temporary road closure Orders, each of which last eighteen months at a cost of approximately £1,000. It is proposed that the temporary Order is replaced with a permanent Order to reduce the work load for council officers and eliminate repeated costs.

There are six level crossings that would be affected by this order: Hungerford, Kintbury, Hamstead Marshall, Thatcham, Colthrop and Midgham. The management of the closures will remain the same - no closure will take place without permission from West Berkshire Council, advance warning signs will placed on site prior to the works and stakeholders will be informed of each closure in reasonable time (except in the case of an emergency).
