The Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley will be elected by voters in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire on the 6 May 2021. On this occasion, the poll will be organised by Yvonne Rees (Police Area Returning Officer) who is the Chief Executive of Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council. Her team will deal with the nomination process and the overall running of the election, which includes announcing the result. Each local authority has a Local Returning Officer who is directed by the Police Area Returning Officer and her team.

Candidate information will be available at www.choosemypcc.org.uk from 15 April 2021.

Polling Day:

Polling day will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021 during the hours of 7am to 10pm.

Poll cards will be despatched on or shortly after 25 March 2021 to all those registered as local government electors. If you do not receive a card, it may mean you are not registered at your current address. Please call our office on 01635 519464 if you wish to check and we can send you a paper application form. Alternatively, go online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Please note that some polling stations may change due to the pandemic so please read your poll card carefully.

Voting Options:

Polling stations will be in place, and will be subject to stringent Government Covid regulations to ensure people can vote safely. However, we are aware that many people will prefer to vote by post or proxy, particularly if they are vulnerable or shielding.

  • Applications for postal votes must be received at West Berkshire Council's Market Street office in Newbury by 5pm on Tuesday 20 April. Postal ballot papers will be despatched on or shortly after 22 April 2021.

  • Applications for proxy votes (appointing someone to vote on your behalf) must be received at West Berkshire Council's Market Street office in Newbury by 5pm on 27 April.

The Count:

The counting of votes for the Police and Crime Commissioner will take place on Monday 10 May, though the votes will be verified, along those from the local parish by-elections on Friday 7 May. The town and parish by-election results will be announced on Friday 7 May. Both events will be held at Newbury Racecourse, but attendance will be by appointment only and limited to candidates, their representatives and official observers.
