Draft Vision for Newbury Town Centre

Have your say

This consultation is closed.

In December 2020 West Berkshire Council began the first stage of developing on a Newbury Town Centre Masterplan by appointing a multi-disciplinary team to undertake a major new study into the future uses of the town. The team was led by Hemingway Design, and included New Masterplanning, GL Hearn and Urban Movement.

Following the initial public survey, which received over 4,000 responses, meetings and workshops we've held with a range of businesses, residents' groups, students, and other stakeholders, we've used your feedback to come up with a draft Vision for Newbury.

Why we want your views

We want to ensure that Newbury will continue to be a successful, modern market town and that it:

  • promotes its heritage and independent identity
  • is innovative and entrepreneurial, able to respond quickly to economic change
  • is social and welcoming, where people gather to meet and celebrate
  • is green in the widest sense, promoting sustainability, biodiversity and healthy living
  • listens to the needs of its urban and rural community

We'd like your views on the town centre's draft Vision and Spatial Framework.

How to take part

If you'd like to comment on the draft Vision and Spatial Framework for Newbury Town Centre, please complete the survey before it closes on 30 July 2021. It should take approximately 7 minutes.

What happens next

Your feedback will be taken into consideration, and used to inform the preparation of the spatial vision and masterplan for publication of the final draft in early autumn.

This will then set the formal planning framework for the future regeneration and development of the town centre.
