Nature Memories Cafe at Thatcham Discovery Centre

Issued on: 8 May 2017

The Nature Memories Cafe takes place at Thatcham's Nature Discovery Centre in collaboration with the Dementia Friendly Communities Project Officer at West Berkshire Council.

The Café's weekly drop-in sessions on Mondays started in January, and after an incredibly successful 10 week trial the Wildlife Trust has secured funding for the next 18 months. But the  Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust need more funding to keep the Café open.

Becky O'Melia, the Centre Ranger at the Nature Discovery Centre said, "The Nature Memories Café is a lifeline for people living with dementia,  their friends and family members. The opportunity to spend time in a relaxing environment with others who truly understand what they're going through is vital, not just for the wellbeing of their loved ones living with dementia but also for their own wellbeing.  Because we received funding from Thatcham Town Council, West Berkshire Council and Alpkit we were able to run the Café sessions earlier free of charge. Now the Wildlife Trust would like to continue the Nature Memories Café for the next two years and we need your help to do it!"
