Reminiscence Sessions at Newbury Library start 28 January
Newbury Library will be hosting Dementia Friendly Reminiscence Sessions.
Issued on: 18 January 2017
The sessions will be FREE and will take place once a month on a Saturday morning starting 28 January from 11am - 12 noon. Subsequent session will be held on 25 February, 25 March and 22 April.
They are suitable for anyone with memory difficulties and their loved ones, and anyone of an older generation who doesn't have dementia but would simply enjoy the social activity and reminiscing.
West Berkshire libraries hold thirty themed reminiscence boxes in their collection including topics such as sport, school days, household & hobbies.
Sue Butterworth, Dementia Friendly Community Programme Officer at West Berkshire Council said, "Reminiscence is a really helpful way to engage people with dementia in social activity and conversation. It's important because it provides mental stimulation, builds relationships. It also creates a sense of belonging and is empowering as everyone is an expert!"
