Library Services for Children and Young People

Bookstar, Bookstart, Rhymetimes and Storytimes for children and young people, from babies to young adults

In addition to printed books our libraries also offer audiobooks, e-books, e-audiobooks and DVDs for children.

What's on?

Each library offers regular Rhymetime and Storytime sessions for babies, toddlers and pre-school children. Bring your child along and they can join in with fun, interactive sing-alongs and group stories run by our friendly organisers. Due to restructuring of our libraries these events may have to change. Please ask at your local library for further information, or you can check a calendar of events at your nearest branch.

Bookstart is a national scheme aimed at inspiring a love of books and stories in every child.
Young children are given a Bookstart pack when under twelve months and at three to four years old. Ask for more details in any West Berkshire library.

Bookstar and Summer Reading Challenge

Bookstar is our ongoing reading challenge for four to eleven year olds. Children collect stickers and certificates to encourage and recognise their reading progress.

Our annual Summer Reading Challenge runs from 1 July to 30 September. To join in, or for more details, drop into any West Berkshire Library.

Arts Award

If you're aged between seven and 24 and already doing the Arts Award through school or an Arts Award Centre, then we can help. Ask for more details at Newbury Library.
