Role

The role of the Vice-Chairman is to support the Chairman in their civic duties.  They may act on behalf of, and instead of, the Chairman on occasion as an authorised delegate.

Peter Argyle

Peter has lived in West Berkshire since 1984. He has two children and five grandchildren. Prior to retiring in 2009, his life was committed to education as a teacher (including a ten year spell in Saudi Arabia) and latterly, organising education for young people not in mainstream education.

Peter was first elected to Newbury District Council in 1997, prior to it turning unitary and becoming West Berkshire Council in 1998. He serves as a member for Calcot ward. His interest in education and the wellbeing of children continues as a member of the Corporate Parenting Panel (for Looked After Children). He is also on the Planning and Licensing Committees. He has been Chairman of the Council on two occasions, 2011/12 and 2014/15.

He enjoys football and cricket and is a season ticket holder at Reading FC.
